How research can be enhanced with muon technology.

How research can be enhanced with muon technology.

The pyramids of Egypt are wonders that are packed with secrets. The egyptian architects who built it have made sure everything is securly hidden. But scientists, on November 2nd found a hidden void while working for project Scanpyramids.

Scanpyramids is a project started in 2015 involving cosmic ray telescopes and muons-which are particles similar to electrons but with a greater mass. They placed muon detectors all over the passages of the Khufu great pyramid.

They found the right above the great passage- a giant hall with countless priceless artifacts. It took them more than a year to find it.  They realized it was so big they could use cosmic ray telescopes to see it from the outside. The scientists said the void couldn’t be accessed without damaging the pyramid.

Muon technology is rarely used and is very expensive. It cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Muons might take archeology to the next step, but scientists are working on solar powered, rugged detectors that can survive the jungles of Belize. They are going to study the Mayan pyramids. The thing is… Muon technology will enhance research and look at everything from another angle.
